If you’re watching some sort of media and someone says something like “hey, this animal media probably isn’t the best because this animal is in pain/fear/shock/etc.” or “this is harmful for the animal because x” and you get upset at them for ruining your fun you probably don’t love animals and just like the happy chemicals they produce for you. Just saying.

@critterpaws personally I think โ€œis the x video cuteโ€ blogs are helpful? Like if Iโ€™m on the internet I want to know that the animals Iโ€™m viewing are being taken care of properly and free from pain and unnecessary stress. I donโ€™t think a single post can encompass the entire if not main issues of what that specific species deals with when it comes to animal husbandry or general knowledge, so preferably Iโ€™d like a whole blog dedicated to one helping spread awareness on that specific animal. I donโ€™t see advocating for proper animal care as obnoxious, just my opinion though.

Also signs of affection and playfulness in one species can also be a sign of fear or stress in another. Body language and social cues vary SO MUCH it’s fascinating, but most academic studies will push you to focus on one species or general taxonomic group, simply because it’s almost impossible to truly understand the scope of animal behavior in every animal ever.

Just because someone knows what German shepherds do when they’re annoyed doesn’t mean they know what a blue ringed octopus or a koala does.

For example Servals tend to hiss as a means of communication, whereas domestic cats hiss primarily as a means of displaying stress or discomfort.

Hell, lots of domestic dogs can have trouble interacting with domestic cats because each animal uses eye contact very differently, and this even leads to confusion and unsafe situations between domesticated dogs and humans.

If anyone claims to know every animal behavior for every species, they’re lying. We don’t even fully understand the behavior we can observe.

Genuinely I’d rather have a problem with too much correct information about animal behavior being spread. That sounds wonderful. The general public is dangerously unaware of the most basic behavioral cues in most wild animals as well as the ground rules of how to act toward animals.

I don’t care if it’s annoying, if you don’t want to know about animals and know they’re being treated respectfully then go watch cartoons where no one gets hurt.
